Game #5: Edric, Spymaster of Trest

Game #4: Edric, Spymaster of Trest
Date: 2013-03-17
Location: Family Game Store, Savage, MD
vs: Savra, Queen of the Golgari (guild); Uril the Miststalker
Result: Neutral Loss

Edric, Spymaster of Trest VS.

Uril, the MiststalkerSavra, Queen of the Golgari

After four pretty draining defeats, a spot at the other table opened up, so I took the opportunity to switch.  It was about 8:25 and the store was closing at 9, so the goal was to get a quick game in. This was another maiden-voyage deck (the last cards went in just before I left to go to the store).  I had a bad land hand and ended up discarding a bit. Edric somehow made it to the table by turn 4, but other creatures weren’t there to get me more cards, and the instants I had needed more mana to be useful.  Savra did a lot more stuff than a Ravnica Blocks constructed deck should be able to, but Uril was Uril (of the Protection from creatures and additional-bonuses-per-enchantment aura variety) and killed us both will General Damage. It was a quick game.

About the Deck ( http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/edric-flash-gordon/ )

I wanted to make  UG deck that didn’t do +1/+1 counters, and I liked the idea of having a deck that was all instants and flash creatures. I cheated a bit and decided that select artifacts could be non-flash, but I try to cast those via Shimmer Myr or Alchemist’s Refuge to stay on theme (Sphinx-Bone Wand is pretty important).
