Result: Fun Loss

Darien, King of Kjeldor, Magic, ColdsnapvsNarset, Enlightened Master, Magic, Khans of TarkirProssh, Skyraider of Kher, Magic, Commander 2013

I kept a 3 land hand, and started with a terramorphic expanse, followed up by a Revered Dead and a Scepter of Empires. Prosh dropped a Goblin Assault and followed it up with Garruk and a Greater Good. I used the scepter to ping Garruk.  I missed a land drop on turn 4, but played an Attended Knight for some board presence. Narset hit the table, and Proshh played an 8/8 Predator Dragon.  I played Well of Lost dreams, and was able to play Darien on turn 7.

Narset  attacked and got a Supreme Verdict and a Journey into rebound-spell. The board was wiped and then Narset returned.  Prosh played a Sarkhan Vol and I played Elspeth, Sun’s Champion.  Narset attacked again and this time played an Eye of the Storm. Prossh played a Praetor’s Counsel into the Eye (by the end, the Eye had: Lightning Bolt, Praetor’s Counsel, Swords to Plowshares, Jeskai Charm, Past in Flames, Cerebral Vortex, and a Martial Coup (that I played in order to get access to some removal).

On turn 11, I blew up the Eye with an Unstable Obelisk but Narset was able to Profound Journey it back and start over with it, and also played Jace.  Prossh killed off Narset.  I worked to get Gideon going, and Elspeth wiped the board, but Prossh was able to come back with both  Scourge of Valkas/Utvara Hellkite AND Savage Ventmaw/Extra Attack Dragon and combo win.

This game was my first experience with an Eye of the Storm. It definitely warped the game, but it was decently fun.

About the Deck:  Darien is a Kingly deck. It’s mostly based around trying to make many soldiers with self-pinging and self-damaging lands. It plays some lifegain, but not as the main theme. It also has a few flavorful Knights and the Throne/Scepter/Crown of Empires.

Game #XXX: Kalemne

Game #XXX: Kalemne Disciple of Iroas
Date: 2016-05-10
Location: Red Castle Games
Vs: Mayael; Reaper King; Doran
Result: ERASED FROM HISTORY

I spent 2 months building an all-Creature Kalemne deck based on inexpensive creatures with 5-power.

Then, on turn 5, it is pointed out to me that Kalemne triggers on CMC of 5 or greater, not Power, I nearly cried. The deck had about 5 creatures (of 59) that fit that bill.

Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas, Magic, Commander 2015

Why Aren’t You Good? RTFC!

Luckily the people in the game were cool enough to let me bash through 5 turns with my Animar deck to catch up. I didn’t record that.

Game #196: Odric, Lunarch Marshal

Game #196: Odric, Lunarch Marshall
Date: 2016-04-19
Location: Red Castle Games, Portland OR
Vs. Grand Aribiter IV; Mizzix; Sydri
Result: Fun Loss

Odric, Lunarch Marshal, Magic, Shadows over InnistradvsGrand Arbiter Augustin IV, Magic, DissensionMizzix of the Izmagnus (Oversized), Magic, Oversize CardsSydri, Galvanic Genius, Magic, Commander 2013

Another game that was a long time ago.

I start with 2 lands, and play a Knight of Meadowgrain on turn 2 and a Gorgon’s Flail on turn 3.  Odric comes out on turn 5 and in this iteration is giving First Strike, Lifelink, Deathtouch, Trample, Vigilance, and Haste.  Meanwhile, Sydri started with an Island, Sol Ring and VoltaicKey on turn 1, then a Stuffy Doll set to Mizzix and a Throne of Empires.  Grand Arbiter threw down an early Propaganda (in Korean), but was Banefired out of existence.

Grand Aribiter played Venser, and a Sublime Archangel (which gets exiled).  Odric is killed by some spells.  Venser gets to Ultimate (because we couldn’t read Propaganda in Korean, and Grand Arbiter wasn’t going to call attention to the fact that one can fully attack planeswalkers without paying for Propaganda.  A cyclonic rift is attempted but countered.

I build up Odric again (Hexproof, Vigilence, Haste, First Strike, Trample, Skulk), but everything gets Terminus-ed away.  At this point there’s a Stormtide Leviathan, and Ghostly Prison on Arbiter’s Team. Mizzix is Past in Flames-ing for moderate value. Sydri has both Throne and Crown of Empires.  The game is getting pretty sloggy and Mizzix is able to kill everyone with X spells.  I had a chance when my team was going to have Flying and Double Strike, but my Skyhunter got killed.

About the Deck (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/french-vanihilism/  is my starting idea list, though isn’t complete)

The original plan for the deck was to play Odric and only French Vanilla creatures (creatures with only Keyword Abilities), and then only Equipment/Aura’s that granted Keywords.  I had to stray from that slightly, but the vast majority of the Creatures and attachables fit that definition.  There aren’t too many clever tricks in the deck, other than instant speed wraths just in case everyone is indestructible. I’ve since played it in another game and had even more fun with it.

Also, it play’s Marshal’s Anthem (for flavor, and also because it makes me think that it’s a song that Marshall Erikson would sing)

Game #195: Godo, Bandit Warlord

Game #195: Godo, Bandit Warlord (try 2, and try 3)
Date: 2016-04-05 (2016-03-22)
Location: Red Castle Games, Portland OR
Vs. Kemba, Kha Regent; Doran the Siege Tower  (Derevi, Radha, Mimeoplasm)
Result: Fun Win (Unfun early scoop)

Godo, Bandit Warlord, Magic, Champions of KamigawavsKemba, Kha Regent, Magic, Scars of MirrodinDoran, the Siege Tower, Magic, Lorwyn

After forgetting to record my first run-through of Godo, I tried again at a later date for an official game.  I bowed out of  the second game early (like turn 2) because a Mimeoplasm player played the artifact that forces mill for untapping immediately (and I’ve never had fun against early crippling mill like that).  Try 3 shaped up to be a game where people actually got to play instead of not being able to cast anything.

I kept a 2 land hand, but played a turn two Sword of the Animist and a turn 3 Tenza and was able to get a creature out to equip the Sword to.  Doran came out on turn 3 but was Path to Exiled. Kemba played several cheap equipment but then got Path to Exiled as well.  Ajani Mentor of Heroes came on board, and managed to Ultimate Doran up to 117 life.

I played Godo and found Trailblazer’s Boots and also had Swiftfoot Boots.  Godo got killed though.  Doran played a Mirari’s wake, but I think I copied a Qasali Pridemage somehow and killed the Wake.  At some point Ajani gets O-Ringed. Doran plays a Torpor Orb (I hate that!). Doran also has, somehow, an 8/9 Birds of Paradise.

I play Kumano, Master Yamabushi and give him Blinding Powder, Tenza and the Swiftfoot Boots, but Crux of Fate wipes the board.  I’m able to re-cast Godo and I get to Swing with Tenza, Swiftoot Boots, and clearly something else (it’s been awhile since this game was played) as I’m able to kill off Kemba (Doran having previously died, I believe) with the second attack.

About the Deck

Godo and equipment and equipment supporters. The goal is to use Blade of Selves.
