Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder, Magic, Commander 2016vsKynaios and Tiro of Meletis (Commander 2016), Magic, Oversize CardsDaxos of Meletis, Magic, Theros

I came really close to having a chance at winning, but Kynaios had a kill spell. I didn’t manage to damage all of my opponents.  Cool stuff happened though!

Game #218: Eron the Relentless

Game #218: Eron the Relentless
Date: 2017-01-03
Location: Red Castle Games, Portland OR
Vs. Kynaio+; Exava, the Blood Witch; Dragonlord Ojutai; Omnath, Locus of Rage
Result:   Neutral Loss

Eron the Relentless, Magic, TimeshiftedvsKynaios and Tiro of Meletis, Magic, Commander 2016Dragonlord Ojutai, Magic, Prerelease CardsOmnath, Locus of Rage, Magic, Prerelease CardsExava, Rakdos Blood Witch, Magic, Dragon's Maze

The first game of 2017 started out as a 3 person game that added a 4th and a 5th appeared.

I had a lot of lands in hand, opened with a Ghitu Encampment, which swung until I cast Eron on turn 5.  Omnath Ramped, Kynaios did Kynaios things (the deck was still mostly stock, though it was the same guy who is also leveling-up his Atraxa deck), Ojutai hit the board early and played controll, and Exava hit early and was swinging hard.

Omnath had lots of stuff to generate card advantage and token advantage. Exava dropped an Underworld Cerberus and Kynaios played a Zedruu that donated an Oath of Druids to me.  On my 6th turn I oathed in a Seismic Elemental and attacked Ojutai with Eron the Relentless, and used a spell to kill off Omnath’s Oracle of Mul Daya.  Exava had out a No Mercy.  Both Ojutai and Kynaios were hiding be hind various Propaganda effects.   Ojutai started to get the upper hand, but then Omnath wen’t crazy (but slowly,  though we did stop it once, via Kynaios’s Blasphemous Act and me killing Omnath first to prevent damage triggers AND also regenerating Eron).  Omnath got back all lands from the graveyard, ended up with around 18 elemental tokens, pinged out Ojutai and smashed the rest of us (Thanks to Fires of Yavimaya), though it took him a long time to figure out that he had basicaly won.

Had I lived to turn 8, my plan was to Mob Rule away all the big creatures attack into No Mercy with Omnath and Elmentals (but not kill Exava) and use the damage triggers to knock other people down. I also had Jiwari Earth Aflame in hand and was looking forward to being able to Channel it to get around Ojutai’s Teferi).  Didn’t happen though

About the Deck (behind on TappedOut again…)

I needed a better Ultra-Mono Red deck (Skyfire Kirin, was a bit lame… though I kept that deck together too).  Eron is from Homelands, a set that I am in the Ultra-Minority for loving (Don’t think that Chandler and Joven aren’t also getting a deck and the word “Partner” sharpied right on them).   It’s mostly just cool red stuff, like Fire Servant, and no non-red-color-identity spells. The theme is: Attack, Burn, Repeat.  I wish the Homeland’s version was foil, but I settled for the Timeshifted foil. Also, he looks a bit like Jaco Pastorius to me.

Result:   Fun Win

Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder, Magic, Commander 2016vsSaskia the Unyielding, Magic, Commander 2016

I played a few games with My brother while I was home for Christmas and let one count as a Project game. Technically I made my goal of “Damage all opponents with Yidris”, but since there was only one, I didn’t fully count it. I also Cascaded twice in a turn.

Game #217: Ravos/Tymna

Game #217: Ravos/Tymna
Date: 2016-12-13
Location: Red Castle Games, Portland OR
Vs. Atraxa +; Vial Smasher/Silas Renn; Tymna/Ludevic
Result:   Neutral Loss

(Tymna the Weaver, Magic, Commander 2016/ ) vsAtraxa, Praetors' Voice, Magic, Commander 2016(Vial Smasher the Fierce, Magic, Commander 2016/Silas Renn, Seeker Adept, Magic, Commander 2016) (Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist, Magic, Commander 2016/Tymna the Weaver, Magic, Commander 2016)

I started with a Windbrisk Heights (hiding away an Enduring Renewal).  I played Tymna on turn 3 and a Keening Apparition on turn 4.  Atraxa started with a Hardened Scales and also cast Manifold Insigts. T/L played Blind Obedience. A Reforge the Soul shuffled up our hands.  I played some small creatures (Herald of Anafenza, Tithe Drinker, etc) and an Elspeth, Sun’s Champion. I got my Enduring Renewal on turn 11 and cast Fleshbag Maruader several times, until Atraxa Mortified my Renewal.  Vial Smasher smashed me pretty hard a few times, and then the board was wiped.  I cast Ravos and rebuilt my board a bit, but a giant Atraxa cast an Overloaded Cyclonic Rift (a card I am definitely starting to HATE), and there wasn’t really much that could be done after that.  I did some fun stuff in the game, but the ending was anticlimactic.

About the Deck (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/unnamed-black-white-partner/) (This link may change, as it is still being built)

Mostly the plan is to have a lot of small creatures, have Ravos pump them and bring them back for value, and attack a lot. Tymna helps draw more stuff. I’m glad to have a W/B deck that isn’t basically a Lifegain deck (even if Tymna does like some lifegain).

Game #216: Saskia the Unyielding

Game #216: Saskia the Unyielding
Date: 2016-12-13
Location: Red Castle Games, Portland OR
Vs. Atraxa +; Reaper King
Result:   Unfun Loss

Saskia the Unyielding, Magic, Commander 2016vsAtraxa, Praetors' Voice, Magic, Commander 2016Reaper King, Magic, Shadowmoor

I had a 3 land hand, but no green. On turn three I played a Taiga and some elves. Turn four I played an Oracle of Mul Daya and a Thunderscape Familiar.  Atraxa was ramping like crazy into an early Elspeth, Knight-Errant, and then a Static Orb (I HATE that card).  On turn 6 I’m able to play Saskia and attack Reaper King to also hit Elspeth and prevent her ultimate. However, it’s pretty hard to play through not getting to untap most things. I lose to a single hit with a 21/21+ Atraxa.

About the Deck (tapped out Soon)

This is an all-Creature deck. Mostly big stuff that hits hard, with a few smaller guys to help fix mana and do tricks. I thought a bit about having each color play a different role in the deck, but ultimately just went with cool creatures.

Game #215: Depala, Pilot Exemplar

Game #215: Depala, Pilot Exemplar
Date: 2016-12-13
Location: Red Castle Games, Portland OR
Vs. Atraxa +; Tymna/Ludavic
Result:   Mostly Fun Loss

Depala, Pilot Exemplar, Magic, KaladeshvsAtraxa, Praetors' Voice, Magic, Commander 2016(Tymna the Weaver, Magic, Commander 2016/Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist, Magic, Commander 2016)

I kept a 3 land hand with no Red, but was able to play a Keyrune on turn 3 followed by a Barge and some Inventors Goggles (that I didn’t realize dont’ work well with most of my creatures).  I played Depala on turn 5, drove a boat and grabbed a dwarrf. Turn 6 I played a few more dwarves. Atraxa wiped the board with a Duneblast and played a Cathars Crusade and Scavenging Ooze. Then the next turn Blasphemos Act wiped the board again.

On turn 8 i played Depala again (for the second of 4 or 5 times), and a Glory of Warfare, and then Gisela on turn 9 and used to drive another car.  Ludevic/Tymna played Kazuul and Tauren Mauler but then there was a board wipe.  Turn 10 I played Depala and a Fanatic. Atraxa cast Languish, and tried to recast Atraxa (but it was countered). Tymna played a Psychosis Crawler. I recast Depala again, and the next turn dug through 9 cards, only getting 3, though the Duergar Hedge mage did kill off a Cathar’s Crusade and a Lightning Greaves. Then Atraxa cast Duneblast again.

Turn 13 I cast several vehicles, turn 14 a Nahiri’s Machinations and a Relentless Assault. I should’ve attacked Atraxa twice, but I split my attacks.  Then Atraxa killed me.

About the Deck (tapped out someday)

This deck is mostly about getting Vehicles or Dwarves into play.  It’s still undergoing some updates.

Game #214: Gonti, Lord of Luxury

Game #214: Gonti, Lord of Luxury
Date: 2016-12-13
Location: Red Castle Games, Portland OR
Vs. Atraxa +; Borborygmos (85); Tymna/Ludavic
Result:   Fun Win

Gonti, Lord of Luxury, Magic, Prerelease CardsvsAtraxa, Praetors' Voice, Magic, Commander 2016Borborygmos Enraged, Magic, Gatecrash(Tymna the Weaver, Magic, Commander 2016/Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist, Magic, Commander 2016)

I started with a 3 land hand and played a Bog Wreckage, and a Cloudstone Curio on turn three, and Gonti (getting a Rhystic Study from Atraxa).  Atraxa played a Vulturous Zombie, and Borborygmos was digging with a Geier-reach Sanitarium, Tymna was doing stuff with lands.  On turn 5 I played a Conjurer’s Closet blinking Gonti for an Astral Cornucopia, and on Turn 6 I played a Dreamstone Hedron and blinked Gonti again. Then everything died to Crackling Doom.

I played Gonti again on turn 7 and kept finding ways to blink or bounce it (getting things like Necromantic Summons, Crystal Crawler, Temple Bell, etc).  Borborygmos killed Gonti once, but it was returned with the Summons. I tried for a Panharmonicon, but it was countered.  Atraxa exiled my conjuror’s closet. On turn 10 I was able to get it back to my hand and cast it on turn 11.  Borborygmos sends a huge attack at Tymna, but Ludavic/Tymna steals a giant Vinecrasher and flings it in response to a Beast Within.  Atraxa gets killed. I exile Borborygmos with a stolen Path to Exile, and then  I cast a Marionette Master as a 4/6.  I use another Aetherborn to sacrifice 8 creatures to deal 32 damage to kill Luda/Tymna, and then using bouncing to make more servos and do it again to kill Borborygmos.

I got to trigger Gonti lots of times, I got to cast a lot of stolen spells, and I used tricks to win. It was a pretty fun game.  I realized midway into the game that I didn’t slot in the Cabal Coffers and Urborg that I had planned on putting in the deck.  Borborygmos had upped his land count in the deck to 85.

About the Deck http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/gonti-luxurious/

Aside from being “Aetherborn” tribal, the goal of this deck is mostly to cast, blink, bounce, and copy Gonti as often as possible to build a “hand” of stolen cards. I play a few lands and abilities that let me have colored mana in case I need to pay costs of activated abilities of stolen cards.  There’s also a small energy sub theme, just because Energy is fun.  Panharmonicon and Minion Reflector get pretty silly, and I also plan on putting a Blade of Selves in for even more fun.
