The Decks Files, part 4: Mono Red

Note on Decklists: Having so many decks means that it’s REALLY time consuming to keep decklists updated. Not every deck is on TappedOut.com, and many that are have changed significantly. That said, IF YOU WANT A DECKLIST: leave a comment or send me a message and I will find time to fix, or create, the decklists on TappedOut.

How often do I want to Play it? How “Good” is it? How much do I like it?
5=  More than once in a Row  I’d play it against “Competitive decks” or if I actually want to try to win  One of my very favorites
4=  Often  It can hold its own  I really like it
3=  Sometimes  It might win under special circumstances  It’s okay
2=  Under certain circumstances  Just for Fun  Something’s not quite right
1=  Rarely / have to be in a certain mood  Winning would be a miracle I might actually take it apart… maybe

Commander: Heartless HidetsuguHeartless Hidetsugu, Magic, Betrayers of Kamigawa
Name: Heartless
Style: Grief / artifacts
Tribe?:
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes: My first red deck. Previously had a stronger artifact theme, but other decks poached cards. The main idea is to make everyone die quickly, and prevent myself from dying.

Commander: Marton StromgaldMárton Stromgald
Name:
Style: Aggro
Tribe?: small-ish things
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes: Marton Stromgald was my #1 most wanted card from Ice Age, and I opened one in my first starter deck from that set.  This deck is mostly about attacking with a lot of things, with a sub-theme of stuff that gets big after attacking so that Meekstone can protect me.

Commander: Ashling the PilgrimAshling the Pilgrim.1
Name: Ashling and the terrible 2s
Style: 2-CMC
Tribe?: some elemental
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 4
Deck Notes: This was my first “limited CMC” deck. The idea came from Ashlings Prerogative. The deck has two versions, one that plays 8-10 land-destruction cards, and the more common one that has a minor artifact theme.  I enjoy this deck, and I’ve also come close to foiling it out, though I WILL play cards in it that can’t be foiled, and there are a few that I haven’t felt like shelling out for the foils.

Commander: Squee Goblin NabobSquee Goblin Nabob
Name: Unstoppable Squee
Style: Voltron
Tribe?: Legendary Goblins
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 4
Deck Notes: SQUEE! the general you probably only have to cast from the command zone once.  There are other Legendary Goblins in the deck, but the only other goblins beyond that are token ones. Lots of cheap-to-equip equipment that are efficient, so even if Squee dies every turn, he can be re-cast and re-suited up. Lots of fun.

Commander: Kiki-Jiki, Mirror BreakerKiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Magic, From the Vault: Legends
Name: Kiki-Jiki Freaky-Deaky
Style: Creatures
Tribe?:
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 3
Deck Notes: This Kiki-jiki deck is almost entirely creatures, aside from Kiki’s boots, gloves, stick, and armor (Swiftfoot Boots, Illusionist’s Bracers, Thornbite Staff, Darksteel Plate). I will happily take out the one infinite combo creature and replace it with something ridiculous if asked. Lots of red value creatures.  Plays in a similar space to Feldon, but in a different way.

Commander: Skyfire KirinSkyfire Kirin, Magic, Saviors of Kamigawa
Name: Fire in the Sky
Style: Ultra Mono, Tribal
Tribe?: Spirits, Kamigawa
Want to play?: 1
“Good?”: 1
Like?: 2
Deck Notes: Sort of thrown together because red spirits and arcane sounded fun AND I needed a red Ultra-Mono deck AND the Kirins are silly legendaries.  Skyfire is kinda useless since it doesn’t give haste. If there were things worth using in other decks, I’d take this one apart.

Commander: Slobad, Goblin TinkererSlobad, Goblin Tinkerer, Magic, Darksteel
Name: Slobad’s Tinker Toys
Style: Creatureless
Tribe?:
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes:  This is almost a mono-brown deck, but I liked a lot of red spells, and Slobad is a pretty cool guy.  Daretti would make it TRULY creature-less, and Kurkesh is also allowed to sub in for the general slot, but having Slobad as a free sac-outlet (and also someone to suit up with Bludgeon Brawl) makes me happiest.

Commander: Bosh, Iron GolemBosh, Iron Golem, Magic, Planechase
Name:  “Michael Bay Super Action”
Style: Netdeck
Tribe?: Giant Robots
Want to play?: 4
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 4
Deck Notes: The only deck I’ve ever copied whole-hog off of the internet (okay, so it’s 96% copied). It came from a Commander Cast article, and I thoroughly enjoy it. Yes it’s another Red-Brown deck, but it’s just so much fun to play

Commander:Balthor the StoutBalthor the Stout, Magic, Torment
Name: Barbary Dwarfs
Style: Tribal
Tribe?: Barbarians and Dwarfs
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 2
Deck Notes: Balthor the Stout is far weaker alive then as a zombie, however I wanted to play Dwarf Tribal. Unfortunately he’s a Barbarian Lord, so I got to mix things up. There’s a minor mountains-matter sub-theme here.

Commander: Feldon of the Third Path Feldon of the Third Path, Magic, Commander 2014
Name: Able Without Cane
Style: Tiny Leaders+,  Mill
Tribe?:
Want to play?: 4
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes: This was originally a Tiny Leaders deck until I realized that Commander is just plain more fun. I kept the original 5, but then added in good things that cost more than 3 that were fun to recur or mill.  I enjoy it more this way.

Commander: Latulla, Keldon OverseerLatulla, Keldon Overseer, Magic, Prophecy
Name: By the time she got a Phoenix
Style: Aggro
Tribe?:  Phoenix
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 3
Deck Notes: I’ve tried to stick Phoenix tribal in several other decks. Latulla’s a good fit because some of the Phoenixes come back to your hand to be re-discarded.  Other X-spells, recurrable red creatures, madness cards, “punisher” cards and mana ramp round out the deck.

The Decks Files, part 3: Mono Black

Note: I’m going to start a series where I rate, and give a synopsis of, my decks. I’ll look at each deck, explain what it does (how/if it wants to win, what “kind” of deck it is), how much I like it, how “good” I think it is, and how often I feel like playing it and maybe an anecdote or two.

Here’s the Quick Rubric I’ll use for some of the questions.

Commander: Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief/Baron SengirDSC03341-375
Name: True Blood
Style: Tribal,
Tribe?: Vampires, All FOIL
Want to play?: 4
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 5
Deck Notes: My first mono black deck was Drana. I liked the vampire arts so much I started getting foil versions, and eventually I decided to foil it out, even to the extent of cutting cards because they could not be foiled. Baron Sengir is the exception, and my Baron is awesomely altered by a friend of mine (the pilot of Balthor / Gisa). One of my favorite all-time games happened with this deck.

Commander: Mikaeus the UnhallowedMikeShade
Name: The Shade
Style: Combo / Value
Tribe?:
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 2-3
Deck Notes: Mikaeus is good, and so is recurring things. I do play Triskelion in the deck, but if people ask nicely, I’ll certainly replace it with a ridiculously terrible card instead.  The main reason I keep this deck around is because of the fantastic alter that my friend did to make it look like the Shade from DC Comics (“Starman” in particular).

Commander: Ashling, the ExtinguisherAshling, the Extinguisher, Magic, Eventide
Name: The Purple Deck
Style: Ultra Mono
Tribe?: purple things
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes: This was the second “Ultra Mono” (no cards not of the color identity aside from lands) deck I built, mostly as a way to trim down the stack.  I really like the way purple looks on black cards, especially in foil, so there are quite a few cards in here just because the art has purple in it.  Other than that it has a Chroma/Devotion (I prefer Chroma) feel and some “sacrifice” themes as well.

Commander: Lim Dul, Necromancer / Chainer Dementia MasterLim-Dul the Necromancer, Magic, Time Spiral
Name: Rise!
Style: Creatureless Reanimator
Tribe?: whatever you’ve got
Want to play?: 4
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 4
Deck Notes: This was one of my first “creatureless” decks.  The goal is to kill your things and raise them again as my zombies.  Adding Chainer as an Alternate commander was a recent innovation. It changes the way the deck plays slightly. This one also generates mana very well, and uses things like Exsanguinate as a back-up.

Commander: Marrow-gnawerMarrow-Gnawer, Magic, Champions of Kamigawa
Name: Rats
Style: Rats
Tribe?: Rats
Want to play?: 1
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 1
Deck Notes:  This is your everyday Relentless Rats deck, though it also plays other Rat Tribal.  I’m not sure why I don’t like it more

Commander: Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis(Ob Nixilis, Unshackled)Ob Nixilis, Unshackled, Magic, Magic 2015 (M15)
Name: The Thirteen
Style: Tribal
Tribe?: Demons, Clerics
Want to play?: 4
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 4
Deck Notes: This is the Nemesis deck to Heliod+ (though not ultra mono), there are 13 Demons in the deck, including the general, as well as 18 Shadowborn Apostles and other clerics (and a few Horrors, Avatars, or It That Betrayses).   Nefarox was the original choice because I had a Russian Foil, but Ob Nixilis, Unshackled makes an even better option because of all the sacrificing of clerics (I actually wish he didn’t have the Anti-Tutor Jerk ability at all).  Door of Destinies is pretty good in this deck.  Nefarox is getting his own new “Creatureless” deck soon.

Commander: King Macar, the Gold CursedKing Macar, the Gold-Cursed, Magic, Journey Into Nyx
Name: C.R.E.A.M.
Style: Tribal
Tribe?: Mercenaries and Minions
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 4
Deck Notes:  King Macar has gold, Mercenaries like Gold (and are a terrible tribe, so of course), and kings need Minions.  I really like Macar’s ability, and having Gold Tokens.

Commander: Ghoulcaller GisaGhoulcaller Gisa, Magic, Commander 2014
Name: The Shovel and the Damage Done
Style: Aggro
Tribe?: (not) Zombies
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 4
Deck Notes: A newer deck that I should play more. Not the Zombies and Robots version, but instead it’s a zombie deck that plays no zombies at all. She just shovels things into zombiedom

Commander: Iname, Death AspectIname, Death Aspect, Magic, Champions of Kamigawa
Name:
Style: Alternate win
Tribe?: Spirits
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 3
Deck Notes:  Iname is efficient at getting creatures into the graveyard to make Crypt of Agadeem really good, or to win via Mortal Kombat Combat.  I have Spirit tribal decks in several colors and color pairs.  Witchbane Orb is there to protect me from Tormod’s crypt.

The Decks Files, part 2: Mono Blue

Note: I’m going to start a series where I rate, and give a synopsis of, my decks. I’ll look at each deck, explain what it does (how/if it wants to win, what “kind” of deck it is), how much I like it, how “good” I think it is, and how often I feel like playing it and maybe an anecdote or two.

Commander: Azami, Lady of ScrollsAzami, Lady of Scrolls, Magic, Champions of Kamigawa
Name:
Style: All Creature, Tribal
Tribe?: Mostly Wizards
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 4
Deck Notes
:  I wanted to build an Azami deck that wasn’t the “Azami Deck.” (Also had won a Foil Azami as part of the “Pack to Charity Binder” from the first CommanderCast “Gifts Given” drive).  I decided my limitation was that I couldn’t play ANY non-creatures (aside from lands) in the deck. Is drawing tons of cards still good and possible? Yes. But the win condition is supposed to be by Poison/Infect (preferably Quicksilver Gargantuan of an infect creature).  The reason I don’t want to play it often is because of the amount of “Derp… yer playing “The Azami Deck” kill you now” in the world (This is the only deck someone new has “respectfully” asked me to not play before ever seeing it played.

Commander: Patron of the MoonPatron of the Moon, Magic, Betrayers of Kamigawa
Name: Moonfolk!
Style: Tribal, Combo, Arcane
Tribe?: Moonfolk
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 2
Deck Notes
:  This deck is more than half foiled, so it’s in sleeves. I like Patron of the Moon’s ability and I like the idea of Moonfolk as a tribe. Amulet of Vigor is a champ.

Commander: Talrand the Sky SummonerTalrand, Sky Summoner, Magic, Magic 2013 (M13)
Name: Make-a-Drake
Style: Tokens, Spells Matter
Tribe?: Drake?
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 4
Like?: 3

Deck Notes:
Lots of cheap card draw spells to just make crap-tons of drakes. Only 7 other creatures. I have won a game due to Omni-Science (Which I think I then took out).

Commander: Blind SeerBlind Seer, Magic, Invasion
Name: 5-Color Blue
Style: Manipulation
Tribe?:
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 4
Deck Notes
:  The separated twin deck to Mistform Ultimus. Color hosers, color changers, and Rainbow Crow carrying Civic Saber (Caw Blade!!!!). Any excuse to play Sleight of Mind (my very first Rare ever) is a good one.

Commander: Mistform UltimusMistform Ultimus, Magic, Timeshifted
Name:
Style: Creature Type Matters
Tribe?: Yes
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 3
Like?:3
Deck Notes: This deck started as a “manipulate everything — creature/land types, colors etc.” deck, but it grew to big, so it split into a color deck and a creature one.

Commander: Lorthos the TidemakerLorthos, the Tidemaker, Magic, Zendikar
Name: LOR-THOS.   The Freshmaker.  King of the Hill People.  Seafood.
Style: Ultra-Mono. Fatty Beat Down
Tribe?: Sea Creatures
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 5
Deck Notes:  I love beating down with big blue creatures.  This has all of the Ula’s Temple critters, but also eels, fish, starfish, homarids/camarids, sharks, whales, etc.  Tromokratis could be a general as well, but I just love Octopuses the most.

Commander: Heidar, Rimewind MasterHeidar, Rimewind Master, Magic, Coldsnap
Name:Snow Day
Style: Manipulation
Tribe?: Snow
Want to play?:3
“Good?”:3
Like?: 4
Deck Notes: Built in part because I really like how the foil Rimewind creatures look, and built in part because of my  Minnesotan heritage (and also built  in part on a Snow-Day from School).  It plays with the Snow-matters cards from Ice Age / Coldsnap. It also has a strong Bounce theme, since Heidar is almost never not active.

Commander:Reveka, Wizard SavantReveka Wizard Savant
Name: What Blue Doesn’t Do
Style: Creatureless
Tribe?: Old School
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 4
Deck Notes:  Reveka is a ridiculous Homelands creature, and a Blue Dwarf(!?).  There are a bunch of old school blue spells that do things that blue does not do: direct damage, damage-tax, removal, land destruction, etc.  There’s also an  un-tap sub-theme to make Reveka “extra” good.

Commander:Soramaro, First to DreamSoramaro, First to Dream, Magic, Saviors of Kamigawa
Name: SoramarUno
Style: Creatureless / Voltron
Tribe?: Having lots of Cards
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes:  Soramaro is my second favorite Maro (after Masumaro).  The goal in this deck (Which is now sort of redundant due to my Kruphix deck), is to have a lot of cards in hand and crush with Soramaro for general damage. It’s not quite Voltron, because it’s not about suiting up Soramaro, just about beefing up the hand.

Commander: Thada Adel, Acquistor / Empress Galina (retired)Thada Adel, Acquisitor, Magic, Worldwake
Name: Fish
Style: Tribal, Theft
Tribe?: Merfolk
Want to play?: x
“Good?”: 2
Like?: 3
Deck Notes: This was, I believe, my first mono blue deck. It was merfolk tribal with some stealing and copying. It started as Galina, but became Thada. Once I got to take a bunch of extra turns with Wanderwine Prophets.  I retired it because I wanted to build the Sakshima Monstrosity and also a Tiny Leaders deck.

The Decks Files, Part 1: Mono White

Note: I’m going to start a series where I rate, and give a synopsis of, my decks. I’ll look at each deck, explain what it does (how/if it wants to win, what “kind” of deck it is), how much I like it, how “good” I think it is, and how often I feel like playing it and maybe an anecdote or two. If I have any official names, or nicknames for the deck, I’ll include those too.

Roughly in order of when built:

Commander:Kemba, Kha RegentKemba, Kha Regent, Magic, Scars of Mirrodin
Name: Crazy Cat Lady
Style: Tokens, Tribal
Tribe?: Cats
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”:  3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes: This was my first mono-White deck. It was originally Kemba beat-down with  “Good Equipment,” but as I needed good equipment more in other decks it became more Cat Tribal and Kitty-toys.  The equipment has shifted to easy-to-equip, to maximize Kitten potential.

Commander: Brigid, Hero of KinsbaileBrigid, Hero of Kinsbaile, Magic, Lorwyn
Name: Kithkin Can’t Fight for $#!+
Style: Tribal
Tribe?: Kithkin
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes:   I like Brigid for her name, and also because she’s a legendary Archer.  She’s fun with a Basilisk Collar.  The deck also has a small Life-Gain Theme.

Commander: Isamaru, Hound of KondaIsamaru Hound of Konda
Name: Booker (after my sister’s dog), IsamarUno
Style: Restriction: 1-CMC
Tribe?:
Want to play?: 4
“Good?”: 4  (for what it is)
Like?: 4
Deck Notes: Everything in this deck costs 1 mana.  The proxy has a picture of my sister’s grumpy Pekingese. This is a deck I actively update with each set.  I’ve won multiple games with it, which surprises me.

Commander:*Heliod, God of the Sun (or Avacyn, or any other Legendary Cleric)Avacyn Angel of Hope.1
Name: Church
Style: Ultra-Mono, Tribal
Tribe?: Clerics
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes:  This was the second “ultra-mono” deck I built. It was originally just Cleric Tribal, but I added in some Gods, Angels, and other “religion” cards. The only enchantments are the General, and the two white “end the game, possibly in a draw” enchantments.

Commander: Yomiji, Who Bars the WayYomiji, Who Bars the Way, Magic, Betrayers of Kamigawa
Name: The Wedding Deck,  Nice Day for a White Wedding
Style: Theme (wedding, and “Bands With Other”)
Tribe?: Legendary Creatures
Want to play?: 2
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 5
Deck Notes:  (SLEEVED). Ibuilt this deck in honor of my wedding.  There are an equal number of Male and Female Legendary Creatures and the Cathedral of Serra gives them all “Bands with Other” (and they believe in marriage equality too, so any legend can band with the other legends of their choice).  Most of the other permanents are Legendary as well.  The counters I use are little gold rings with doves on them

Commander:Nahiri, the LithomancerNahiri, the Lithomancer, Magic, Commander 2014
Name: Kor Corps
Style: Tribal, Equipment
Tribe?:  Kor
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 3
Like?: 3
Deck Notes:  I always wanted a Kor Tribal deck, but it was only recently that they got a legitimate general. It’s another “equipment-is-important” deck.

Commander: Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker

Priscilla Page, Acquistions

Priscilla Page, Acquistions

Name: At the Library
Style: Theme
Tribe?:  Books
Want to play?: 3
“Good?”: 1
Like?: 5
Deck Notes:  I’m a Librarian. I wanted a deck with all of the “Book” artifacts. I really liked the Page Sisters from “Jack-of-Fables.”  I like Theme decks

Coming Soon.. ; Zuberi Goldenfeather

New Decks in the Works, 2015

150 isn’t enough, so I’ve got several new decks in various states of construction.

Scion of the Ur-Dragon, 2:  Takhisis/Dragonlance themed — black knights, Viashino Draconiana, Dragon Highlord Legends,  Mono colored Dragons (okay and the FRF legendaries too).    Oh how I wish that WotC let MTG and DnD cross the streams… Dragons of Tarkir have the WRONG breath weapons.
STATUS: needs lands, and utility cards

Zuberi Golden Feather: Griffin tribal because.
STATUS: needs lands and cards other than griffins

Rosheen Meanderer: The Joy of X. Hydra tribal and X-Spells
STATUS: just needs lands

Asmira, Holy Avenger: Voltron and/or combo (to make Asmira bigger).
STATUS: needs lands and some final cuts

Sakashima the Impostor (Lazav, Dimir Mastermind): Formerly Thada-Adel. Copy, Borrow, Steal, minus merfolk. This one’s also meant to be “Transformable” between a Mono-Blue deck and a Blue Black one.
STATUS: Have to figure out the “Swaps” between the two versions.

Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch: Either a +1/+1 matters deck, or a Bad Girls deck. Also really want to try Bazaar Trader/Hivestone/Plague Sliver somewhere
STATUS: still deciding on Cards

Latulla, Keldon Overseer: Phoenixes and discarding for profit.
STATUS: still deciding on cards

Feldon of the Third Path: Red Mill. This deck is meant to be a “Convertible” deck between Tiny Leaders and a Regular EDH. It will have a TL shell that I can add 50 other cards (of any CMC) to make it a real deck. (and who knows, I might not play much more TL…)
STATUS: Still deciding on the final 50

Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker: SHHHH it’s a Library. Mostly library themed deck (all of the “Book” or “Scroll” artifacts, and other theme-y things) plus some convoluted ways to take advantage of Michiko’s ability. Already made some proxies of Michiko, Masako the Humorless and Linvala Keeper of Silence as the Page Sisters from the Jack of Fables comics.
STATUS: Still in acquisitions mode.

Hilary Page, Research

Priscilla Page, Acquistions

Intet, the Dreamer #2: I wanted to build a RUG Dragons deck and also play with my favorite combo engine of Aluren/Horned Kavu. This one is Kavu, Kobolds and Dragons and maybe a Dragon Storm. Tarkir makes me build more Dragon decks. Intet is just for the colors. I suppose it could be Yasova or Surrak too.
STATUS: still building

Lady Evangela: has been sitting with a rad proxy and wanting to be a Color-matters deck for almost two years
STATUS: just a twinkle in my eyeLady Evangela

Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest: either a Prowess deck or Prowess/Heroic, with maybe Jeskai Ascendancy combo and Sunforger funtimes thrown in. I had lots of possible ways to go with him, still not sure. I considered a RW deck with a Blue general (with only enough U to cast Shu Yun), or a Creatureless build, or Monk Tribal, or having two Shu Yuns (See below)
STATUS: waiting for a few pieces and lands

(Numot the Devastator (Gwafa Hazid/Norin the Wary tag-team): This is human tribal, and most people don’t play Tag-Team rules. Considering letting Shu Yun be the new Commander here)

OTHER DECKS THAT MIGHT GET OVERHAULS (OR JUST HAULED OFF)
(Ramses Overdark): considering splitting it into tow decks: a Ninja/Assassin deck and a Rogue/Evil Aura deck. Not sure though.

(Tariel the Reckoner): Considering letting Alesha Who Smiles at Death be the new boss here since she looks kinda Samurai-ish (conflating pseudo-Asian cultures though… and my Tariel proxy is pretty cool)

(Oros the Avenger): Oros Hates Balthor Graveyards is less fun now that Balthor is no-more. Maybe re-configuring it somehow, or scrapping it for parts.

(Xira Arien): Eldrazi Tribal might get scrapped for parts (there’s a real dual in there, plus a Phyrexian Altar that is collecting dust)

All The Decks (January ’15 Edition)

Snow Days (in Maryland.  In Minnesota they’re just called “Days”) afforded me time to do a bit of a Deck Inventory. So here are all 148, with Pictures.

New Decks In the Works

No one else showed up last Wednesday to the regular EDH night at my store (or at least not for the 40 minutes I waited) and I won’t get a chance to play this week, so I thought I’d share a bit about new decks that I’m working on.

Last Wednesday was going to be the debut of two decks (for which I do not have full lists written up).

Soramaro, First to Dream

1. Soramaro, First to Dream,  which is a “creatureless” deck built to draw a ton of cards and make Soramaro huge and voltron-y, with a back up plan of Altar of Dementia and a bit of mill.  In an ideal world (or one that plays Tag-Team commanders) this would be a UG deck sharing space with Masumaro.

Vhati il-Dal

2. Vhati il-Dal:  This deck was one that just sort of happened. It is a -1/-1 counters matter deck, meant to use counters to my advantage and to kill off Vhati-ed creatures.  It has some Devoted Druid/Quillspike combo action, and hopes to use Nekroskitter for benefit.  I’ve wanted to do a Vhati deck for awhile, but didn’t really have a theme for it.  I considered using Infect, but since I dislike Poison so much, I cut most of that out of the deck.  There are one or two infect creatures, but they are there more because they interact with -1/-1 counters.

Yomiji, Who Bars the Way

3. I also may have played my “White Wedding” deck (Yomiji Who Bars the Way), which is all Legendary creatures (and almost all Legendary Permanents) and focuses around giving them (wedding)-Bands with Other White Legends at the Cathedral of Serra.  There are an even number of “male’ and “female” legends, of most humanoid species, (but they are allowed to Band with Other Legends of any species or gender… Yomiji believes in Marriage Equality).  I even have a special box for it, and little gold ring and dove tokens.

OTHER DECKS IN THE WORKS

Reki, the History of KamigawaKaysaMasumaro, First to LiveAyumi, the Last Visitor etc.

A. The Green Legends deck (a rotating cast of green legendary generals including  Reki, Kaysa, and others):  I liked building the “White Wedding” deck (all white legends) so much that I decided to build a Green one (and might eventually go for each color) to give some Legendary Creatures that don’t fit into other decks, or might never lead a deck, the chance to play.  I intentionally did green second (and separate from white) to show that I know it’s “Better” to just use Sisay.

B.  Kruphix:  The green legends deck was originally going to be a Masumaro deck (but not a ‘creatureless’ one, possibly an all-creature one) but then I realized it would be fun to have both Masumaro and Soramaro  (and Multani) in the same deck. I thought about Edric. Then Kruphix was spoiled.  Of course I want an indestructible Reliquary Tower as my general for a deck like this.  I’m excited to build it.  I may use Enter the Infiinite as a win condition (just to buff the ‘Maros. no Omniscience in the deck).

Skeleton Ship

C. Skeleton Ship:  I’m very close to my “Pirate” theme deck being done.  I may tweak it a bit to make it even more “Pirates of Dark Water” themed.  The challenge is taking the time to find the best 15 islands (preferably foreign) for the deck (possibly shelling out for APAC and European lands).

Athreos is finally spoiled.  It’s not what I hoped for to help Teysa #1, but I could see myself building a  B/W weenie devotion deck with it  maybe with minor life-gain and Carnival of Souls.
