Game #195: Godo, Bandit Warlord (try 2, and try 3)
Date: 2016-04-05 (2016-03-22)
Location: Red Castle Games, Portland OR
Vs. Kemba, Kha Regent; Doran the Siege Tower (Derevi, Radha, Mimeoplasm)
Result: Fun Win (Unfun early scoop)
After forgetting to record my first run-through of Godo, I tried again at a later date for an official game. I bowed out of the second game early (like turn 2) because a Mimeoplasm player played the artifact that forces mill for untapping immediately (and I’ve never had fun against early crippling mill like that). Try 3 shaped up to be a game where people actually got to play instead of not being able to cast anything.
I kept a 2 land hand, but played a turn two Sword of the Animist and a turn 3 Tenza and was able to get a creature out to equip the Sword to. Doran came out on turn 3 but was Path to Exiled. Kemba played several cheap equipment but then got Path to Exiled as well. Ajani Mentor of Heroes came on board, and managed to Ultimate Doran up to 117 life.
I played Godo and found Trailblazer’s Boots and also had Swiftfoot Boots. Godo got killed though. Doran played a Mirari’s wake, but I think I copied a Qasali Pridemage somehow and killed the Wake. At some point Ajani gets O-Ringed. Doran plays a Torpor Orb (I hate that!). Doran also has, somehow, an 8/9 Birds of Paradise.
I play Kumano, Master Yamabushi and give him Blinding Powder, Tenza and the Swiftfoot Boots, but Crux of Fate wipes the board. I’m able to re-cast Godo and I get to Swing with Tenza, Swiftoot Boots, and clearly something else (it’s been awhile since this game was played) as I’m able to kill off Kemba (Doran having previously died, I believe) with the second attack.
About the Deck
Godo and equipment and equipment supporters. The goal is to use Blade of Selves.
Game #151.1, 151.2: Rosheen Meanderer
Location: Family Game Store
Vs. Rhys the Redeemed; Gisa
Result: Mana Screw Loss; Fun Loss
In the first game I started with a Mountain and a Forest and a Gyre Sage (with a creature I could cast to give it a counter). The Gyre Sage died to a Fleshbag Marauder. I didn’t draw another land until turn 9 (and then Rhys’s Tempt with Discovery helped me almost get into the game… but I died to an attack before I even got to untap). Rhys did a bunch of Sun Titaning, Gisa had Vesuva and Coffers and lots of other stuff. I just discarded things all game.
GAME 2: Same Cast.
In this game I got to do things. I had a Primordial Hydra get up to 28/28 before being All is Dusted. I also cast Domri Rade for the first time. I had Mana Reflection and Rosheen and I did tricks with Mistcutter Hydra to activate Raid to Howl of the Horde on a Clan Defiance to kill Rhys and deal 14 to Gisa. I could have killed Gisa next turn, until he realized that he could kill me with Poison.
About the Deck: (Tapped out Someday)
This deck is the Joy of X. It’s basically Hydra Tribal and X spells. I even play some bad Hydras. Rosheen is pretty fun as a general as well. The goal is to cast many Hydras and X Spells. I bought a Mana Reflection for it so that Rosheen can tap for 8.
Game #42.1, 42.2 : Melek, Izzet Paragon
Location: Friend’s house in Duluth
vs: Lorax, the Siege Tower
Doran hit the table early, but was Rapidly Hybridized. Despite a 3 land opening hand, I stalled at 4 lands and was quickly overwhelmed by Garruk, Avenger of Zendikar and a bunch of other things. This was the first try on a new deck, so we decided to play a second game.
Doran hits on turn 3 again, and there’s a Deadbridge Chant, Oracle of Mul-Daya and a Treasury Thrull in the mix as well. I was able to play Melek though, as well as a Reliquary tower and a Hypersonic Dragon. I was able to play a doubled Act of Treason, but drew a Bribery, missing out on double casting it, however I did Bribery for an Avenger of Zendikar and an overloaded Dragonshift let my plant tokens become Dragons long enough to fly in for the kill.
About the Deck: (Tapped out coming soon)
A Blue-Red Instants and Sorceries Matter deck with two rules:
- No Counterspells
- No Burn
There’s a good mix of theft, token generation, and combat buffs to make winning via beatdown a possibility. It has some library manipulation (scroll rack) to try to maximize Melek’s abilities. I enjoy trying to cast Haze of Rage as many times as possible in a turn.
