The third Daughter-Deck.

I started with a three land hand, and an early Chromatic Star and a Golem’s Heart, and then a Worn Powerstone on turn 3. Azusa came down early, and Lyzolda ramped into a Rune-scarred demon pretty quickly. On turn 4 Azusa Collective Voyaged for 6.  Akiri/Reyhan had an early Corpsejack Menace, and Azusa kept ramping.  Meanwhile I grabbed a Claws of Gix, Paradise Mantle, and an Artificer’s Intuition.  Lyzolda’s Pestilence Demon did some damage on turn 6.

I was able to tutor up a Skycloud Egg, and a Heartstone, and drop a Paradox Engine on turn 8, allowing me to sacrifice the Egg for UW and a draw, use the UW to activate Hanna and return the egg, recast the egg and untap everything and repeat to draw into something (I think I went with Explosive Apparatus) and have enough mana to continue looping and blowing up the apparatus to kill everyone.  I don’t combo-off often, but this deck involved enough pieces, and luck, that I didn’t feel too bad about it.

About the Deck ( http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/hanna-tinkertoys )

Hanna and lots of low-cost artifacts for quick and easy recursion. It does make use of Paradox Engine for infinite recursion, but it takes multiple pieces to make it work (and people should be blowing up Paradox Engines, anyway).  Dad is in the workshop with Hanna, and they build stuff.

Hit the Zombie Achievement (Finally) by casting and flashing back the 13-zombie spell. I also started by copying Azusa with Vizier of Many Faces. I also nuked the board right before getting the zombies, and managed to win the game while hitting all previous achievements, thus earning 5 swaps (TBD). It was a really fun game: Burgeoning happened, Kydele generated a ton of mana, Glint-Eye Nephilim drew me a ton of cards (And discarded a Wonder to pump itself). Azusa put on some huge early pressure (and Kiki Jiki couldn’t get going)

I had Waste Not , but made 0 discards happen. I did not hit the zombie achievement, so only get two swaps.  8.5 Tails had a World Queller and a turn 1 Serra Ascendant, but my notes say that I won this one.

I played a few games with My brother while I was home for Christmas and let one count as a Project game. Technically I made my goal of “Damage all opponents with Yidris”, but since there was only one, I didn’t fully count it. I also Cascaded twice in a turn.

Game #214: Gonti, Lord of Luxury

Game #214: Gonti, Lord of Luxury
Date: 2016-12-13
Location: Red Castle Games, Portland OR
Vs. Atraxa +; Borborygmos (85); Tymna/Ludavic
Result:   Fun Win

Gonti, Lord of Luxury, Magic, Prerelease CardsvsAtraxa, Praetors' Voice, Magic, Commander 2016Borborygmos Enraged, Magic, Gatecrash(Tymna the Weaver, Magic, Commander 2016/Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist, Magic, Commander 2016)

I started with a 3 land hand and played a Bog Wreckage, and a Cloudstone Curio on turn three, and Gonti (getting a Rhystic Study from Atraxa).  Atraxa played a Vulturous Zombie, and Borborygmos was digging with a Geier-reach Sanitarium, Tymna was doing stuff with lands.  On turn 5 I played a Conjurer’s Closet blinking Gonti for an Astral Cornucopia, and on Turn 6 I played a Dreamstone Hedron and blinked Gonti again. Then everything died to Crackling Doom.

I played Gonti again on turn 7 and kept finding ways to blink or bounce it (getting things like Necromantic Summons, Crystal Crawler, Temple Bell, etc).  Borborygmos killed Gonti once, but it was returned with the Summons. I tried for a Panharmonicon, but it was countered.  Atraxa exiled my conjuror’s closet. On turn 10 I was able to get it back to my hand and cast it on turn 11.  Borborygmos sends a huge attack at Tymna, but Ludavic/Tymna steals a giant Vinecrasher and flings it in response to a Beast Within.  Atraxa gets killed. I exile Borborygmos with a stolen Path to Exile, and then  I cast a Marionette Master as a 4/6.  I use another Aetherborn to sacrifice 8 creatures to deal 32 damage to kill Luda/Tymna, and then using bouncing to make more servos and do it again to kill Borborygmos.

I got to trigger Gonti lots of times, I got to cast a lot of stolen spells, and I used tricks to win. It was a pretty fun game.  I realized midway into the game that I didn’t slot in the Cabal Coffers and Urborg that I had planned on putting in the deck.  Borborygmos had upped his land count in the deck to 85.

About the Deck http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/gonti-luxurious/

Aside from being “Aetherborn” tribal, the goal of this deck is mostly to cast, blink, bounce, and copy Gonti as often as possible to build a “hand” of stolen cards. I play a few lands and abilities that let me have colored mana in case I need to pay costs of activated abilities of stolen cards.  There’s also a small energy sub theme, just because Energy is fun.  Panharmonicon and Minion Reflector get pretty silly, and I also plan on putting a Blade of Selves in for even more fun.

Vs.Intet, the Dreamer
Result:   Mostly Fun Win

Sigarda, Heron's Grace, Magic, Shadows over InnistradvsIntet, the Dreamer, Magic, Planar Chaos

Of course, once all the monsters came along, it was time for Humanity and Goodness to triumph… right?

I showed up a few minutes late, and found out that one of the guys I most enjoy playing with had just left. I sat around the store waiting for about a half-an-hour before another player showed up.

Intet had a slow start, just scraping together the mana to cast a Lighthouse Chronologist.  I started with a lot of white mana. I played a turn 2 Relic Seeker and got it renowned to find Bladed Bracers. I played a Runed Stalactite as well, and an Elder Cathar.  Intet had to make some choices and let his Chronologist die, though his Jace Beleren kept drawing us both cards.  It took me awhile to get enough green mana, or to hit 6 mana, but I kept slowly building an army, including a Veteran Cathar, some Gathered Townsfolk and a few other things.  Intet finally started to muster a defense, with a Wurmcoil Engine and a Talrand, The Sky Summoner, but I did the math and was able to swing with my whole team to do the exact amount of damage needed to win.

About the Deck  http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/07-11-16-the-humanity/

This deck had been sitting on my table for a long time (pre-dating any of the other Monster Theme decks).  It’s human tribal with some guardian angels thrown in for fun. Nothing too out of the ordinary.

Game #205: Emrakul, The Promised End

Game #205:  Emrakul, the Promised End

Vs.Dakkon Blackblade; Selenia, Dark Angel
Result:   Fun Win

Emrakul, the Promised End, Magic, Eldritch MoonvsDakkon Blackblade, Magic, ChroniclesSelenia, Dark Angel, Magic, Tempest

The promised end of Super Spooky Monst-tober Fest of Fright and Doom…

I kept a 2 land hand and played a blasted landscape to start, followed by Wastes and a Runed Servitor, Wastes and a Cryptolith, and a vedalken Orerry on turn four.  Selenia played an early Tainted Sigil and Dakkon played an early Laboratory Maniac and Knight of the White Orchid.  I used Runed Servitor to attack, trying to get it into the graveyard.   Selenia played a No Mercy, I countered something, and was able to play lands on turns 6 and 7 to cast Kozilek’s Channeler, which was followed by a Merciless Eviction of creatures.

Later in the game Selenia played a Triskadekaphobia, and I Scoured away the No Mercy.  Dakkon Diabolic Revelationed for what I think was Solitary Confinement and some Hivemind/Pact shennanigans.   Selenia swung with a Hatred which Dakkon responded to with a Hiveminded Intervention Pact.  Luckily I could produce white mana so it didn’t kill me.  Angel of Finality ate my graveyard, but I was getting close to Emrakul range.   I played a Stuffy Doll, and Utter End took care of Hivemind (a card I’m growing to HATE) but also ate Orrery and the Angel.

The game got tricky at this point, as Selenia had a Tree of Perdition. I cast Emrakul and took control of Selenia’s turn trying to figure out a way to swap around life totals and deal damage to kill both players (someone was close to 13 for the Triskadekaphobia).  It didn’t quite work, however i was able to demonic tutor for something to kill Solitary Confinement.  Then someone Wrathed.  Dakkon was dead, and I was able to re-cast Emrakul and take another turn from Selenia and trigger Selenia’s pay life activated ability enough times to get the player into kill range, and we declared me the winner.   Another Win for Spooky Monsters.

About the Deck  ( http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/emrakul-wants-love-too/ )

I couldn’t decide exactly how I wanted this deck to run. At first it was a “5-color” colorless deck, using the new mana cheating rules to produce lots of colors and steal spells and play things with sunburst etc.  Then, after reading Emrakul’s Story about how she just wants to be loved too, I thought about making it a more “Awkward Hug” style deck:  things that kind of help everyone, but not entirely, and also not wrecking people when stealing their turns. I really like the idea of putting the traveling pants on Emrakul.  Also, I did a quick MSE proxy with the Flying Spaghetti Monster on it.
